Kuvempu Janma Shatamanotsva
- An Evening of Kannada Poetry, Music and Drama
Sydney Kannada Sangha Celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava function on the 06 Nov 04 at Riverside Girls High School Hall, Huntley’s Point Road, Gladesville, NSW-2111. Since the timing of this function coincided with 100th Birth Anniversary of our great poet Dr. K.V. Puttappa, popularly known as “ Kuvempu “, the entire program was dedicated to Kuvempu
The program was well attended by over 400 people who enjoyed the program and appreciated the efforts of the Executive Committee and the participants in bringing out such a quality program. Mrs Uma Katti from the community was the MC whose presentation in well spoken Kannada was also well appreciated.
The function was presided by Dr. M.M Kalburgi, Ex Vice Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, whose visit was co-ordinated by Asia Pacific Kannada Koota.
The program started with welcome speech by Mr. Sam Gopinath, President of Sydney Kannada Sangha followed by an engrossing speech by Dr Kalburgi.
The program was divided into 3 segments, the first segment being “Kavi Kavya Vaachana“. A number of talented poets from the community including youngsters presented either their own poem or Kuvempu’s poem.
This was followed by the second segment “ Kindarjogi “ musical play based on Kuvempu’s popular poem “ Bommana Halli Kindarjogi “. This play was choreographed and directed by Narayana Kanakapura from our community.
The third segment was “Musical Segment “comprising of a number of Kuvempu’s poems presented in Solo & Group singing formats by talented singers (children & adults) from the community..
The accompaniment of keyboard, harmonium and tabla made this segment a very professional light music concert
The community participation in the entire program was well received and appreciated by the audience. The program was sponsored by a number of businesses within the community.
Asia Pacific Kannada Koota co-ordinator Mr Onkaraswamy Goppenalli gave a brief report on its activities.
The function was concluded with a delicious dinner supplied by Woodlands Family Restaurant. Finally Mr. Prakash Pillappa, Executive member proposed vote of thanks
